Things ‘out there’ that elicit strong negative feelings usually indicate parts of ourselves that we don’t accept. Projecting our disdain outward allows us to experience these emotions at a comfortable distance. It’s easier to acknowledge some feelings when they’re about other people. If we’re conscious, we can gain self-awareness every time we feel repulsion or hatred. An honest look within helps us see what we’re rejecting in ourselves.
