The noteworthy thing about ‘taking offense’ is that it’s necessary for us to do something in order for it to happen. If we don’t take offense, we won’t experience it. We can only be offended, hurt or angry over something someone else says or does if we choose to. The ability to not be offended in situations in which we ordinarily would be requires personal insight and practice. Insight helps us remember that getting upset is a choice.
