Sometimes our emotional reactions are so uncomfortable that we repress them, convincing ourselves that we’re ‘beyond’ them. Although we may rationalize and believe it’s true, this coping strategy simply prolongs suffering. No short cut will allow us to healthily bypass our feelings. If we don’t experience them, unfelt feelings will clog our energy and disrupt our emotional, psychological and physical equilibrium. The only way to move beyond the discomfort is to get out of the head and into the body, feeling them as the sensations that accompany them. We can’t think our feelings away because they’re not thoughts…
They’re feelings.
