You interpret what happens in your life according to an unconscious need to maintain a consistent emotional environment. You might not even like your emotional state most of the time but, on some level, what is familiar is comfortable. If your ‘normal’ isn’t so pleasant, try to regularly notice your thought patterns and question their validity. Since most thoughts aren’t true in any objective sense, why not trade them in for ones that feel better?
