We determine the conditions that must be met in order for us to feel joyful. Most of us require specific possessions, experiences and outcomes to get there. If they show up, we feel good. If they don’t, we experience disappointment, sadness or grief. But each of us is capable of establishing a fundamental condition of well-being that has nothing whatsoever to do with phenomenal experience. We may simply choose to feel good because we’re alive. This doesn’t erase our quest for growth, expansion or greater experience, but it does allow us to enjoy life…
