Old conceptions of ‘truth’ give way to new ones as discoveries are made. Attitudes and opinions change as we gain deeper understanding. Judgments pronounced with absolute assurance often prove inaccurate. Evaluations of people and situations turn out to be false as additional information surfaces. Remembering this helps us understand how little sense it makes to defend, argue and fight over conflicting points of view.
