When you fear other people, it’s difficult to feel empathy. It doesn’t matter which kind of fear moves you, it’s probably misguided. As Mark Twain once said, “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them have never happened.” Everybody you meet is essentially looking for connection, love and joy. Expanding the range of people for whom you feel compassion is much easier when you remember:
There’s much less to fear than you think.
