Setting clear boundaries creates healthy relationships. If someone crosses a line or acts inappropriately, it’s our responsibility to let them know how we feel about it. If they don’t honor our requests to stop the behavior, it’s our right (and responsibility) to distance ourselves. Staying in a situation in which someone continues to violate our sensibilities sends an implicit message that, even though we may not like it, we’ll tolerate their behavior. If boundaries aren’t upheld with consequences, they aren’t really boundaries. Following through with the consequences isn’t always easy, but it’s the way to make real change…
Actually happen.
