Suffering is the result of the story you’re telling yourself. Part of you may secretly like to suffer a bit because you find it familiar and comforting. However, if you knew how suffering tarnishes your energetic radiance, you’d want to change that story…
ASAP.
Merci
In AA, years ago, we used to say “Misery is Optional”, which made an enormous impression on me. I began to see how much of our hurt is mental. So I wish we had better definitions of words. “Suffering” literally means being under what we are carrying (Latin sub + fero). Misery to me is the wallowing, or as Merci says (secretly like to suffer a bit). I want us to be fully conscious of when we are wallowing, or secretly enjoying it, and when we are in an acceptance mode. If we are in constant physical pain, then we need the acceptance mode, so that we can continue loving and living transparently. Our minds are so good at fooling us about which is which, like whether or not I need another drink . .
This website is excellent for all of us, I believe.
Thank you Larry. So true that our hurt is mental. When we suffer, we wallow in the judgments that we carry (and secretly like it). 🙂
