Our egos are so clever, they can fool us into believing stuff we’ve completely made up for a moment of convenience. Later, we might change our stories to embrace entirely different positions. We’ll likely convince ourselves that we’ve held those viewpoints all along. But this self-deluding behavior doesn’t serve our long-term well-being. It gives the ego the satisfaction of control, but it’s fleeting because deep down, we know what we’re doing.
