Saying yes to someone when it’s actually a ‘no’, helps us temporarily avoid the discomfort of possibly making the other person feel bad, displeased or disappointed. But ignoring our own preferences doesn’t support us in living authentically. It just entangles us in arrangements that don’t match who we are and causes us to postpone living life the way we want. If we wait until we’re finally compelled to express ourselves honestly, the repressed anger will cause us to act out clumsily.
