Some folks claim that optimism is foolish and self-delusional. However, a bias toward expecting that things won’t work out isn’t any more accurate or insightful than expecting that things will work out. There are two very large differences, however. Pessimism about the future causes dread. It seeps into your present moment experience, long before what’s dreaded comes to pass. If the gloom was misplaced, you suffered for no reason.
