When uncomfortable feelings arise, it’s tempting to distract, self-medicate or otherwise avoid dealing with them. You may try to engage them by ‘arguing’ your way out of the feelings or seek reassurance from others. These approaches may provide relief, but only temporarily. The best way to overcome unpleasant feelings is to feel them. But instead of doing it mentally, feel them as sensations in your body. When you don’t resist them, the result is extraordinary:
They melt away.
