An awareness test asks participants to carefully note the articles of blue clothing worn by a man passing through a scene in a video. After hearing various answers, the instructor then asks the participants to name the articles of RED clothing the man was wearing. Nearly all the participants performed poorly answering this second question. Why? Because they were paying attention to what they were prepared to look for. This says a lot about why people see the world in such dramatically different ways…
